On 5 April 2012, we had the opportunity to bet on our winning horse, Matthew, who did his utmost in the boxing ring to raise some money for the Scalabrini Centre of Cape Town. It all took place during the Big Fight Cape Town, presented by East City Boxing and organized at Trinity in Green Point. During the night, a delegation from Scalabrini (Sergio, Kate, Emma, Tara, Catherine and Debby) watched 12 amateur boxers from East City Boxing fighting for charity. Each boxer represented a local charity and each charity had its own stand at the venue. In each fight two fighters fought for their charity and all the money bet on both fighters went to the winning fighter’s charity.
Before the fight, the charities had the opportunity to present themselves in the ring. Emma did a great job representing Scalabrini. The real fight then began. We cheered and supported our fighter Matthew. The fight was exciting until the last moment, but Matthew did not let us down and won the fight. All together it was an exciting night, in which we raised some money, promoted Scalabrini and networked with other charities.
