Hi. My name is David and I’m from Sweden. After finishing my graduate studies in Geneva, Switzerland in 2009, I decided that I wanted to come to a new and different environment and do some volunteer work as a complement to my formal education.
So far, Cape Town seems like the perfect choice and its natural surroundings, culture, and people are really starting to grow on me.

I’m currently working at the employment help desk and getting to know the Scalabrini Centre peu à peu. I really enjoy the interaction with the people I meet, and feel that I’m learning more and more about our clients, as well as myself, as time goes by. The staff here have really been helpful and helped me to get situated. There are also possibilities for getting involved in other activities at Scalabrini like teaching English, helping out at the soup kitchen, etc., which I think is great.

I’m also currently taking a class in Xhosa which is a real challenge (especially the clicking sounds!) and which is helping me to get further acquainted with South African culture.

Sala kakuhle!
