My name is Liz, and I joined the Scalabrini team in January 2010. I am a hospitality and TESOL teacher from Adelaide in South Australia, and I am involved in the Employment Help Desk during weekday mornings, as well as teaching an English class twice a week. I am slowly finding my feet here after a whirlwind start. I was seeking a new challenge and I certainly found it.
The staff at Scalabrini have been wonderful, so supportive and patient when I needed to ask all those stupid questions. The help desk is a busy place and our clients are courteous and grateful for our help. There never seems to be enough time to get every job done, but the people here are certainly making a difference in a really positive way. I love my English students-they want to learn – quite a refreshing change from some of my other high school experiences! I have only seen a fraction of the work that is done so far, but hope to get even more involved as time passes.
Cape Town is a beautiful place and I am enjoying exploring the sights, sounds and flavours! Public transport is a real eye opener, and I am getting to know the ‘real’ town slowly but surely .
Come and join us- you won’t regret it!
